Kiten, Bulgaria

Kiten
Kiten is a resort on the southern Bulgarian Black Sea in which beautiful waters and deep forests of the Strandja Mountain are uniquely combined. Kiten has two beaches – Atliman on the north (with nice sand dunes) and Karaagach on the south, divided by a small peninsula, called Urdoviza. The resort is located 55km away from Bourgas and only 5km away from the resort of Primorsko. It is near the north mouth of the Karaagach River and some part of it lies on the Urdoviza peninsula, which has 10-15m high coast.

The two beaches of Kiten offer a great holiday opportunity. They have smooth sand, warm sun and perfect waters and they are away from the crowds of the big resorts.
In close proximity to Kiten there are two other beaches – IYC-Primorsko and Primorsko as the first one is an international camp site with many family hotels and facilities. Also in and near Kiten there are very good nightlife opportunities – discos, clubs and casinos.

For the people who love sports, Kiten offers many suitable activities – yachting, underwater fishing, water diving, water ski, a football playground, tennis courts, basketball and volleyball playground, swimming pools, banana and many more.

In the resort there are also being conducted excursions and picnics in the Strandja Park and the gorgeous Ropotamo reserve. Also tours to Primorsko, Sozopol, Duni, Nessebur and more are offered. In order to get familiar with the old Bulgarian traditions you can visit Yasna polyana and Pimenovo village. Other interesting things are excursions to Istanbul, yacht or boat trips and horse riding. There are also many facilities for children.
Kiten also offers many places for eating, such as restaurants, taverns, saloons and summer garden restaurants (most of them available in every hotel). Most of the restaurants prepare traditional Bulgarian meals, but there are also fish restaurants and places, serving international cuisine. Usually the Bulgarian food is accompanied with life music or other attractions.

The holiday town Kiten bears proudly its name. Each newcomer to this lovely village is charmed by its mild climate, intact nature and sea and hospitable native people.
The village was founded in 1931 by fugitives from Greece and immigrants from the surrounding villages. After 1970, Kiten has been developing as a attractive center for many tourists.
Nowadays Kiten is a prosperous modern tourist village. In its little and cosy private hotel, houses, syndicate stations, camping sites and motel each week come more than 70 000 tourists.
The numberless restaurants, snack - bars, discos, amusement park, water slides offer numerous attractions.
As a little gem, Kiten has spread itself along the Black Sea Coast between two municipal centres - Tzarevo 10 km away and Primorsko - 5 km away.
The north beach, that bears the name "Atliman" is a very beautiful and always calm bay.
The South beach borders river Kiten whici is rich in grey mullet, carp and barbel. There is also a sea base for sea sports and yachting. The interesting combination of sea and mountain turns Kiten into an attractive and preferred holiday place by thousand of tourists.

The resort Kiten is one of the most famous and attractive spots on the Southern Black Sea coast, where the wooded Strandja’s spurs look at themselves in the clear sea depths.
The town of Kiten is smaller than the nearby Primorsko with its population less than 1,000 people according to latest data.
The town is the successor of the Urdoviza Fortress situated on the cape itself. It is based on the northern mouth of Karaagach River (Kiten River), and a small part of the village is on the small peninsula Urdoviza. The coast of the peninsula is steep and 10- 15 meters high.

The main pecularities of the relief in Kiten, which are very important for the tourism, are the two picturesque bays – Karaagach and Atliman.
There are other small wonderful bays on the Strandja coast /Sozopolski Kavacite, Stomoplo/ and each one of them has its own conditions and enchantment.
Up till the Bulgarian Liberation in 1878 on the east end of the cape, over the rocky seacoast, was rising the wall of a fortress. This village-fortress goes back quite a long way. But who was its ruler, what was its end – nobody can say anything. Only the legends and the folk songs in this region tell us about it.

The beaches are maybe the most important nature wealth of Kiten, which has caused its development as a resort village and as a centre for summer sea recreation.
Very romantic is the picturesque nature beauty and the two comfortable, cozy beaches: the northern – Atliman and the southern – Karaagach. Between them, a peninsula with the mystic name Urdoviza, cuts deep into the sea. .
On both sides the beach is hemmed in by a high rocky shore. The Southern beach has two conditionally divided beaches – "Kiten-south" and "Kiten camping". It lies on the Urdoviza bay, which is more open to the sea. Its coast line is 1380 m long.
Close to Kiten are the beaches of "MMC /SeaYouthCentre/- Primorsko" and "Primorsko - south", which are among the biggest beaches on the Black Sea coast south of Bourgas.
