The Netherland Antilles, once called the Dutch West Indies, is an autonomous region of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, composed of five main islands in the Caribbean each with its own culture and distinct set of attractions, geographically split into two distant groups: the Windward Islands, including Curacao and Bonaire located off the coast of Venezuela and characterized by coral reefs, and the volcanic and mountainous islands of Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba of Leeward Islands, situated in the southeastern part of the British Virgin Islands. The Netherlands Antilles experiences a tropical climate, with pleasant, warm weather throughout the whole year. The Netherland Antilles is home to 225, 369 inhabitants (November 2008 estimate).
